Dubai Holidays

Dubai coastline including beach and boat on the water

Dubai doesn’t do things in half measures. This dramatic metropolis brings together elements of the cosmopolitan and coast on the cusp of the Arabian Desert. Record-breaking attractions and miles of breathtaking beaches are just the beginning.

Prepare for paradise and then some. Soaring skyscrapers sit alongside idyllic beaches under the glow of year-round sun. It’s a heady mix of contrasts, where you could just as easily be taking in the views from the top of the world’s tallest building, as chilling under the pointed eaves of a mosque.

Dubai is both desert and ocean, shopping malls versus souks, and old meets new. Dive into our deals and discover for yourself.

A hotspot for city breaks and beach resorts

If you’re keen to explore beyond your beach resort, there are theme parks, mega malls, design districts, and even ski slopes in Dubai City. Go from the world’s longest urban zipline to the glitzy Dubai Marina and back to the beach in no time – the best of cosmopolitan and coast.

Our impressive range of ATOL-protected escapes to Dubai includes a selection of luxury hotels and all inclusive holidays. This means once-in-a-lifetime activities and experiences within easy reach of your sun lounger.

Your guide to Dubai holidays

Top 5 things to do in Dubai

Spectacular sights, cultural destinations and family-friendly fun will make your Dubai holiday one to remember. Here are our highlights to get you started:

  • Burj Khalifa: The Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and is a must-visit on any Dubai holiday. Travel up to the planet’s highest observation deck on the 148th floor for jaw-dropping vistas across the city and the Arabian Desert beyond.
  • IMG World of Adventures: Thrill-seekers should head to IMG World of Adventures, the world’s largest indoor theme park. The star attractions are the adrenaline-pumping rides featuring favourite superheroes from the Marvel franchise.
  • Al Fahidi: The winding, narrow alleyways of the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood provide quiet sanctuary from the hubbub of modern Dubai. The amber-hued buildings date back to the 1890s and have been respectfully restored to offer a glimpse of life before the United Arab Emirates.
  • Dubai Fountain: See a spectacular show at the Dubai Fountain, where thousands of dancing water jets surge to heights of over 140m. This is best seen at night, when lights and lasers accompany the performance.
  • Etihad Museum: Discover the birth of the United Arab Emirates and chart its meteoric rise over time through the engaging and interactive exhibits at the Etihad Museum.
  • Shopping: With over 1,300 shops, the Dubai Mall is the largest in the world. It’s home to everything from luxury fashion to high street brands. Designer labels feature amongst the 630 shops at the Mall of the Emirates, but the star attraction is the Middle East’s first indoor ski park.

Best places to stay in Dubai

It’s no surprise that a destination as diverse as Dubai offers a great range of neighbourhoods – each with its own perks and personality. Here are our top places to stay in Dubai:

  • The Palm Jumeirah: This palm-shaped island is world-renowned for its tree-inspired design. With a choice of astounding hotels lining the Palm Jumeirah’s fronds, you can guarantee proximity to the beach wherever you decide to stay.
  • Deira: For authentic stays in Dubai, Deira comes up trumps. A lot of the city’s oldest attractions and markets are based here and a higher concentration of immigrant communities means you’ll have delicious Chinese, Indian and Emirati dishes on your doorstep.
  • Dubai Marina: Almost like a mini city in itself, Dubai Marina is surrounded by clusters of towering skyscrapers. This is the place to be for waterfront dining, nightlife and yacht cruises. Be sure to fit in a scenic stroll along Marina Walk and a go on XLine – the world’s longest urban zipline.
  • Jebel Ali: Though largely an industrial and residential area, Jebel Ali is great if you want to be near Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Maktoum International Airport. Motiongate Dubai is also a short drive away if you want to have the theme park within easy reach.
  • Al Barsha: Just inland from the Palm Jumeirah,Al Barsha is a less flashy destination than some of the other neighbourhoods in Dubai. Enjoy parks, ponds, playgrounds plus shopping in Al Barsha Mall.
  • Jumeirah Village: Set just behind Al Barsha, Jumeirah Village is another option for a holiday in Dubai that’s a little out of the limelight of the inner city. With local malls and Dubai Butterfly Garden nearby, there are attractions to keep you occupied without travelling too far.

Beach holidays in Dubai

In terms of world-class sandy stretches, you have access to some of the finest in Dubai. Whether you want to get active or just fly and flop, there is a beach for you in Dubai.

  • Jumeirah Beach: The swathes of golden sand at Jumeirah Beach make this a popular destination for sun dwellers. Go on weekdays to beat the crowds and you can relax while taking in the city vistas.
  • Kite Beach: Kite Beach is well-known for sports like kitesurfing and kayaking. You’ll find soft white sand, shallow waters and colourful play areas where kids can run wild and make friends.
  • Black Palace Beach: Black Palace Beach is one of Dubai’s best-kept secrets. Tucked away and with limited facilities, the bigger crowds tend to stay away, meaning this is the perfect spot to unwind and top up the tan in peace.
  • Al Mamzar Beach Park: Al Mamzar Beach Park offers huge stretches of white sand alongside acres of green fields and gardens. Swimming pools, playgrounds and bike rentals keep the kids entertained. Meanwhile hundreds of palm trees mean shady spots for picnics and barbecues.
  • Sunset Beach: Families looking for a quieter spot to enjoy the sun should head to Sunset Beach, one of Dubai’s more relaxing public beaches. Stay until dusk to capture a family photo against the setting sun.
  • JBR Beach: The JBR Beach is a bustling waterfront district that has everything for a great family day out, with many cafés, bars and restaurants for refreshments in between dips.

Dubai luxury holidays

There’s no shortage of splendour in Dubai, making it one of the world’s best destinations for luxury holidays. Make the most of it with our top recommendations:

  • Palm Jumeirah hotels: Find some of the glitziest resorts and most elegant eateries on the exclusive Palm Jumeirah, a man-made island that juts out into the Persian Gulf in the shape of a palm tree. Here you’ll find luxury hotels such as Atlantis The Palm, Waldorf Astoria and Fairmont The Palm.
  • Helicopter tours: Soar to dizzying new heights on a helicopter tour of Dubai’s skyline. Marvel at the city’s tallest buildings and most dramatic attractions from a bird’s-eye perspective. Take the 60-minute flight for a view of all the top sights.
  • Talise Spa: Luxury at 150m is on offer at one of Dubai’s best spas. The Talise Spa at the Burj Al Arab overlooks the turquoise water of the Arabian Gulf. For romantic holidays, consider booking the infinity pool for a private moonlight dip for two.
  • Private yacht charters: Experience the VIP lifestyle by chartering a private yacht to sail Dubai’s iconic islands in blissful tranquillity. Have the boat to yourself and amp up the indulgence with a bottle of champagne.
  • Exclusive beach clubs: Head to RIVA Beach Club for a touch of exclusive luxury – take a dip in the temperature-controlled pool, before settling into a sun lounger with a cocktail from the gazebo bar.
  • Drive a supercar: Always wanted to get behind the wheel of the car of your dreams? Go on a test driving experience and see the sights from the deluxe interior of a high-speed Lamborghini, Ferrari or Audi.

Family holidays in Dubai

If you’re travelling to Dubai on a family holiday, there’s plenty to look forward to. Water babies, thrill-seekers and little lovers of big entertainment will be enthralled from check-in to check-out.

  • Wild waterparks: Whether it’s Wild Wadi right under the famous Burj Al Arab or Aquaventure Waterpark – the world’s largest – there is a pool flume or a lazy river with your name on it.
  • Aquariums: Dubai Mall is home to its own aquarium with a 10-million-litre tank so you can watch a wonderful world of water-dwellers while you shop. Or head to the Lost Chambers Aquarium at Atlantis, where you can snorkel, dive and meet marine experts.
  • Thrilling theme parks: Kids of all ages will be kept entertained at Dubai Parks and Resorts – the largest theme park destination in the Middle East. Choose from Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai, Neon Galaxy and more. Or visit them all over a couple of days.
  • Desert adventures: The desert landscape promises all kinds of adventures including dune-bashing, sandboarding and wildlife safaris. If you go to the Hatta Dam in the Hajar Mountains, you can even go kayaking or cool off in the rock pools.
  • Hotels for families: A good family-friendly hotel is more than just a place to lay your head. Take advantage of facilities and services like kids’ clubs, swimming pools and restaurant menus. Some hotels even offer art, cooking and wildlife classes just for little ones.
  • Family-friendly beaches: Dubai’s beaches rarely stop at just sand and sea. Playgrounds, kids’ pools and activities for all ages make many of them a top choice for family holidays. Le Mer is one of our favourites thanks to its water sports and electric car track.

Couples holidays in Dubai

With indulgent experiences, exciting attractions and beautiful hotels, Dubai is the ideal place to dial up the romance and spend some quality time together.

  • Bedouin stargazing: To escape the bustle of the city, visit the desert retreat of Nara, located around 45 minutes from Dubai Marina in a conservation reserve. Enjoy dinner under the stars and even stay overnight in deluxe nomadic tents.
  • Gorgeous gardens: For fantastic selfie-snapping, head to Dubai Miracle Garden – the world’s largest natural flower garden. Pose by rose tunnels, steal kisses under towering sculptures and watch nature take flight in the butterfly garden.
  • Sunset soaring: Arrange a hot air balloon ride at sunrise with your loved one and take in swoon-worthy vistas over the rusty red dunes of the Arabian Desert and the majestic Hajar Mountains. Keep your eyes peeled for foxes, oryx and wildcats.
  • Dhow cruises: Take to the glittering Dubai Creek on a traditional dhow boat, watching the lights dancing on the water as you meander through the old town district and past the city’s most jaw-dropping buildings.
  • Dinner in the Sky: Crowned one of the most unusual restaurants in the world, the Dinner in the Sky experience offers couples with an appetite for heights the chance to eat a multi-course meal suspended 50m above Dubai.
  • Immersive art: Dubai loves to put an innovative stamp on their cultural attractions. Head to the Theatre of Digital Art or AYA Dubai to see amazing art splashed across walls and floors, bringing spaces to life alongside lights and music.

Food and drink in Dubai

Foodies love Dubai’s excellent eats, from fine dining restaurants to trendy street food hotspots. Dubai’s cuisine is truly global, but tasty traditional dishes are worth seeking out.

  • Street food: A street food revolution has gripped Dubai in recent years, and an army of gourmet food trucks of all cuisines now roam the city. Try the Mexican treats of Calle Tacos or the Indian-Emirati fusion of GObai.
  • Elevated cuisine: Views don’t get much better than those from the world’s highest restaurant. Head to At.mosphere on the 122nd floor of Burj Khalifa to dine with spectacular views of the Dubai skyline.
  • Coffee dates: A small cup of strong Arabic coffee is the perfect end to a big meal. The fragrant and robust tasting coffee is a staple in Dubai and you’ll find it on most menus accompanied by plump, sweet and sticky dates.
  • Spice it up: Follow your nose to the Spice Souk, a traditional marketplace for herbs, spices and other authentic local ingredients. Peruse the vibrant, serpentine lanes and soak up this feast for the senses.
  • National dish: For something very typical of Dubai, try machboos. Like biryani but spicier, it’s usually served with chicken, lamb or fish, and is often referred to as the UAE’s national food.
  • Something different: Trend-seeking foodies should head to one of the growing number of restaurants offering camel burgers and camel stews. Or for something more traditional, try camel milk – a Gulf favourite.

Nightlife in Dubai

Rooftop bars, world-famous DJs and out-of-this-world cocktails blend to create a lively nightlife on Dubai holidays. Don’t forget to pack your dancing shoes.

  • Rooftop bars: As the sun goes down, you should head up. The number of rooftop bars has grown with Dubai’s skyline, and they’re great spots to sip cocktails or dance after dark. Cielo Sky Lounge, is a long-standing favourite.
  • Happy hour: Opting for cheap Dubai holidays doesn’t mean nightlife is off the agenda. Happy hours across many of the city's venues see discounts on drinks up to 50%. Catch the majority in the early evening.
  • Top DJs: Top international DJs regularly fly into Dubai to get the party started. Thursdays and Fridays are the big nights. There’s something for all tastes, but house, techno and EDM are the most popular genres.
  • Beach clubs: Join the jet-set crowd at WHITE Beach, Atlantis The Palm – a trendy, adults only day-to-night venue. Enjoy international dishes, take in the dreamy uninterrupted sea view from the infinity pool and get the party started at dusk.
  • Dubai Opera: The Dubai Opera offers a changing programme of music, ballet, comedy and theatre. The state-of-the-art venue in Downtown Dubai also enjoys spectacular views towards the Burj Khalifa, so arrive early for a pre-performance drink at the rooftop bar.
  • Non-alcoholic nightlife: Cocktail connoisseurs are well-served in Dubai, but mocktails are also plentiful as many Emiratis don’t drink alcohol. Tourists over 21 are permitted to drink in designated areas and licensed venues. During Ramadan, rules may differ, however, so it’s best to check.
